Observatory

My roll-off observatory.

10 inch ATM RC on Gemini G42+ observatory

Nightview. TEC140 on (replaced)CGE mount.

This is the setup with the Nikon 300mm. f2.8 telelens on CGE mount.

My old C8 on EQ6.

Me, with the local lightpolluted night sky.

The nice colors are caused by the pc’s LED’s.

Building my observatory.

Since I allready build a splitroof observatory which did it’s job very well, I decided to stay on this design. The only thing changed is that the roof doesn’t split, but instead slides to the side (north).

09-01-2005. The concrete foundation for the pier.

The foundation for the pier is a 1 square meter concrete plate with on top a plastic cement bucket, also filled with concrete.

This will result in a rigid connection to the concrete foundation for the metal pier.

The total surface will be 3 x 3.5 meters.

17-01-2005. Keep on digging! It’s only 60 meters!

22-01-2005. Just finished digging when the concrete arrives.

Without….

…..and a couple of hours later, with concrete.

Winter in Holland, I allready installed the pier on its foundation.

30-03-2005. It’s time to start building!

Things start to take shape after a day work.

The wooden frame of the roll-off roof is placed on top to take measurements.

Putting the roof together. Time to put the beer in the fridge to celebrate reaching the highest point!

The roof is finished, no more beer, so I started building the construction which holds the roof when observing.

12-04-2005.   Finished! (again, beer)

A couple of pictures of my first observatory.

The good thing about the splitroof-design is that you can close the roof real tight when observing, but I had trouble finding an easy way to close the roof.
